mouse wheel won't scroll
Hi all.........
bought a new optical mouse for my wife's old Dell with Win 98 SE. For the first few days, it worked fine. Now some days it scrolls and other days it won't. Sometimes re-booting solves the problem and sometimes it doesn't.
I had Windows check for driver updates. It came back that the best driver for this mouse is what is loaded.
Sometimes on re-boot, it gives an error message that "there is no mouse, please press enter to continue......"
Please give me some options??????
Not sure who is going to have the nervous breakdown first, wife or computer :-P........
Blessings to all & thanks in advance

I recommend you uninstall and reinstall the software for the mouse, it sounds like the software may be corrupted. Just my 2 cents

thanks Bear, but the mouse didn't come with any software....first time I got one that didn't come with CD for driver.
Have also tried disconnecting it and reconnecting it, but to no avail.
Hope to hear from all......thanks.......Beth & Darrell

What is the make & model?
-
Hi Jephree.....box says it's a:
3D Optical Mouse.......OP 03
PS/2--No Driver needed......
Hope this helps.

No brand? Like Logitec? Or Microsoft? Or?
Does the box claim Windows 98 SE compatible?
-
Been searching the box since last post....
best I can see is a large "CE"
says it's compatible with win 95, 97(didn't know there was one), 98, 2000, NT, & XP
supports plug & play
dynamic resolution 700dpi
"Completely fit for Microsoft Intel mousse."
That's all the info on the box. Period.
Got it at a reputable dealer....as I said, worked great for a couple of days and now is off again/on again.
Hope this helps

Is the scroll feature the only problem?
Do the buttons & general movement work OK?
-
Everything else seems to work ok, except when it decides, on a whim, to "mouse not recognized.....click enter to continue", on re-boot.

Are your sure that the ps/2 connection is good? That there is no stress on it?
I am unsure of 98 SE settings but under control panel is there mouse settings?
Also perhaps you just need to consider that you got a bad mouse. I assume it is returnable?
