I got a computer that use to be connected to a server.Now it isn't.Everytime I log on, I get a box, Enter network password--user name-password-domain I only can enter name and password,don't know server. Than I get another box that says, Microsoft Networking--No Domain Server was available to validate your password you may not be able to gain access to some resoures.Willnot let me into word,excel,etc.When I try I get another box that reads, This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down, or a box that reads, Error--The operating system is not presently configured to run this application. I never had the server and now don,t know what to do.Any help would be greatly appriciated.-------Thank-You Very Much----John Godski

Go to Control Panel, Network. If you're not on a network and one is listed in the "Primary Network Logon" box, delete/remove it.

Yes. You'll probably get a message; "Your network is not complete. Do you wish to continue?" Say yes. You'll get this message every time you open Control Panel - Network, but just say YES.

God49, do you get the same problems if you simply cancel the login prompt? The problems with Word, Excel, etc may be related to the fact that these applications were set to run from the server when the machine was installed in a networked environment.

Do you have the original CDs and/or licences for Windows 98 and Microsoft Office? Or was this an ex-corporate sell-off where they sold you the hardware but not the licences for the software?

Thanks to your OK I removed Client for Microsoft Network. I only lost the ability to rememeber my OE password. My ISP says I have to be on a network. DIALUP NETWORKING. Is that like a LAN setup.
They will not let my computer remaind with IE6 and all secuirty updates. My virus scan show IE5.dat every time. CC cleaner erases it every time to no avial. I had this problem when I tried a DSL and they installed winpoet for auto connections. I dropped them.
Today I cannot get to MS update page again!! Every scan woudl redo the curetn ones. (Security Updates). Is is possibe my system is set upa as another version, Like XP or somthing? Avie
