Locks up
This a friends computer I'm trying to fix for him. He said it was locking up and you have to hard shut it down. Then it has to run scan disk at the next boot up. It boots ok and works ok so far for me when I shut it down before it locks up. Then I let it lock up. After the screen saver starts it locks up. So I tryed ctrl. alt delete and nothing happen. I the had to just turn it off and reboot it. I turned off the screen saver and its still working ok, 3 hours ago.
It looks like somethings goes wrong when screen saver is on. Any ideas how to fix this?

I spoke too soon. I just tryed to open the cd rom and nothing happen. Then I tryed to go to my computer and it will not open. Ctrl-alt-del and it said my computer not responding. I clicked end task and now it's locked up---It's locked up with the hour glass on like it's trying to work.

Have you got all the latest updates from Micro$oft?
When I first got my Windows ME machine it was crashing all over the place, and it's the same if I use the recovery CD to take it back to factory settings. Installing the critical updates fixes it, though it does still crash from time to time. They say XP is much more stable, but they don't tell me where to get the money for an upgrade.
Another point. ME is unstable enough without using a screensaver. If I want to leave the computer on, but unattended for a while, I switch the monitor off. A lot of things can crash when the screensaver starts. You're better off without it.
