Has to be another way to backup with certainty of knowing its there......

Loooong answer; It should work in raw dos, with or without a space. First ensure the file is actually in C:\Windows\Command. (I have heard that some systems require the space, but as of yet I have not run across this.) From a dos prompt, type in
dir c:\windows\command\scanreg.exe
and hit Enter. If the file is there, it should come up on the directory listing.
If you're typing the command correctly, (and the scanreg.exe file is indeed in c:\windows\command) and you get the "Bad command or filename" error then it's probably a problem with your current PATH setting(s).
For Win9x, the PATH settings can be readily found in two places; the c:\msdos.sys, and c:\autoexec.bat files.
The c:\msdos.sys path statement should look like this (with a typical Windows installation);
NOTE: The autoexec.bat file may be empty. This is OK when the Windows GUI is used for system operation.
Notice the "path %path%;G..." line. This is because the path statement can be up to 127 characters long, including any spaces. (Don't forget we're in DOS here.) Generally, the only space in the line is right after "PATH", ie; the fifth character. It (fifth character) can also be an equals sign (=). If your needs exceed this, another path line can be added, calling the "%path%" as the first entry (this "calls" the contents of the first PATH statement), then on with other entries seperated by a semicolon (";") between each entry. Thus the 127 character limit is bypassed. The double colon ("::") above this line causes the O/S to skip the line instead of taking the .627438 micro seconds to read the empty line and recognize it as such and proceed to the next line.
Check your two files for this information.
To check either in dos, at the C:\> or C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type in
edit c:\msdos.sys
to view the file. (If this doesn't work, then it's most likely the PATH problem as EDIT.COM resides in c:\windows\command as well.) When finished, hit (seperately) Alt, then F, then X, then ENTER. This will close the dos text editor program. Do the same for c:\autoexec.bat.
Post back with your results or (further) problems.
Bless You for a fast reply-Ok, on the scanreg.exe it says file not found, and this is exactly what is in edit
[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C
and all the other values their are 1, and alot of X's to get 1024.
The only thing in the auto exec. is my executive software (disk keeper lite)
I guess I am probably lucky to even be able to use this computer, thats a good thing, as we don't have our new one yet-LoL
Half of the system tools won't work from microsoft tools, but some do, and that's a reg problem they say, because the .exe is there (they have a whole page devoted to it) LoL
When I run the reg. checker it says Ok, not baced up today, that's good, may still be hope-Huh LoL
When I was running the backup it said it was backing it up, so I figure it must be somewhere; I'm not a novice, but am far from knowing alot, so be gentle with me LoL Blessings To All
(Tried to Cd fix, and the player won't open (probably broken too) not sure I understand their method anyways-Thanks Again

Reason: added info
This part of the article should explain most of what I am talking about--
SYMPTOMS
When you use the Microsoft System Information tool (Msinfo32.exe) to display system data, you may receive the following error message in the right pane of the System Information window:
Cannot Display Information
The Component which displays this information is not functioning properly, or is not present on this machine.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the registry entries that are required for Microsoft System Information to function correctly are damaged or missing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, manually reinstall Microsoft System Information. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Insert your Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition compact disc (CD) into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Run box, type the following line, and then click OK:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection Msinfo.reg 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
4. Repeat step 2 and step 3 for each of the following lines:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection Msinfo2.reg 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection CDM.base 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection sigver.base 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
5. Restart your computer
Now I understand it after reading it again, but still have other software issues, which is why I would like to go back on the registry; all the tools I mentioned are in this program, pic. (sys. info/sys. tools)Which is not working completely. Sooooo LoL
Can take out pic. later, just let me know, I think I answered the questions, I hope LoL Blessings To All
