What is the make & model of the computer?
Assuming that you do not have a floppy in the drive: You may need to check the floppy & IDE cables as well as the motherboard battery.
Also does the floppy light stay on constantly?

This shouldn't make the slightest bit of difference - in theory, but it did with mine when I had a similar problem.
Try running Scandisk (full scan, fix everything) and then Defrag (disk defragmenter).
Perhaps it will help, perhaps it won't, but it never does any harm to give your HD a checkup and defrag your files.

also, if that doesnt work, check the bios setings, see if it detects your flopy drive and make sure it is set to 3.5" not 5.25" (i hadthis problem with an old computer, someone had changedthe flopy type in the bios and it sed incorect disk or disk error, strike any keyto continue)
