WME won't shutdown properly, plus I was getting a lot of pop ups!
Hello
I have 2 teens that have used my computer to download music and games. A few weeks ago, one of them tried to download netzero and I have been getting popups like crazy and my windows won't shut down properly. When I go to Start, Shutdown, I get this message:
Windows
An error has occurred. To Continue:
Press Enter to return to Windows, or
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer. If you do this, you will lose any unsaved information in all open applications.
Error: OE: 0177: BFF8E64B
Press any key
If I press enter, I get another error which says:
Kb891711
KB891711 caused a general protection fault in module KRNL 386.exe at 0003:00003366.
Close
If I C+A+D, and try to shutdown, I just keep looping back to the error. I'm at my wits end.

This Microsoft Page deals with issues raised by the Security Patch Kb891711
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/891711
However your overall issues would lead me to suggest the following as well:
Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
(Not in this section please).

Hello
I ran the spybot s&d and was able to delete the problems, but when I run the adaware, it finds problems but will not delete them. By process of elimination, I deleted one item at a time and it froze on the same problem called:
Virturnmonde Process Malware C:\Windows\Apppatch\REGIP.exe
I will post my HJT log in the appropriate thread next.

HJThis will look at your log asap.
You do have alot of issues there.
He should be able to clear you up tho

Hello
I posted my HJT log in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs forum with the subject Windows ME Shutdown & malware problems
-
could you not boot into safemode and delete the file: C:\Windows\Apppatch\REGIP.exe?

Hi there MadMike
I was in safe mode when I ran the scans. I didn't try to delete the file because I wasn't instructed to do so. I've never tried this before.
-
so.... it came up as a virus? but wouldn't let you clean it up on the antivirus program?
you may not be able to delete it, it would probably say it was a system file.

i deleted a virus once using dsDEL, i scaned my computer with McAfee online scan and it said i had to but the antivirus to get rid of it so i deleted it, i couldnt do it by right clicking and chosing delete though
