    missing files?

    I have been trying to help a friend who's win98 computer was stuck in 'safe mode'.Eventually we resorted to scanreg/restore...Computer will now start up into normal mode but we get messages to say that the files 'vsdata95.vxd' and ' C:\WINDOWS\system\VMM32\enable.VXD' cannot be found and that some programmes may not work.
    Pressing any key bypasses these messages and the computer then starts up normally.
    What are the missing files,...and are they really needed...if so how can we replace them.

    "Googling" is using the Google search engine. Just type google.com in your address bar, and when the site opens, enter whatever you want to search for. It's fairly fast.

    Check this article and see if it helps.

    Ok Dan...have been a'Googling and think i have sloved the problem by removing the entry in the Registry...have uninstalled Zone Alarm as this computer is not going to be used on the internet anyway.

    Thanks again.

    By the way...it is Sunday..don't you peeps ever go to bed

    Going to bed means maybe missing postings. Can't do that. ;>)

    OK, you beat me to it. I presume you found/deleted the vsdata95.vxd data entry from here;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD

    Is everything working OK now?

    Starting up ok now...Yes the files were in the specified Registry entry..
    Just the other zillion or so niggles to sort out now.
    The computer is only for the kids to play with so no doubt it will shortly be knackered again

    Cheers....donny0
