on Belarc Advisor, what does it say under "motherboard"?
I'm prety sure that the maximum amount of RAM for windows 98 is 256mb
A friend of mine has win98, he upgraded from 64mb-256mb RAM and his p.c runs like a dream!!!! it's worth upgrading if your pc is running slow

"I'm prety sure that the maximum amount of RAM for windows 98 is 256mb.."

This is incorrect. Windows can handle up to 2GB of RAM. There are a couple of settings you have to perform in order for windows to handle/manage it, but it will.

oh, sorry for giving the wrong info.. i was told by a local computer shop that the maximum for win 98 is 256mb...
does it depend on the motherboard how much ram you can have?

Here's the link for the MSKB article. It doesn't really say much but it can be used as a jump off point for further information. (Go back to the computer shop and set them straight. Tell them to fire the techs and hire you.) ;>)

    Lots of memory info here.

"does it depend on the motherboard how much ram you can have?"

Yes. Motherboards have a designed RAM capacity. The newer the mobo, generally, the more RAM it can handle. Also the technology of how it's handled is changing with the newer boards.
