    Now. I'll try this a third time. I have added the upload. It took a while to figure this out. I have a Compaq Presario system. The cd with windows will only wipe out everything and reinstall the first basic setup. It took me about 16 hours to reinstall updates and programs a year ago when I did this. So, I cant just use the cd to put the rundll file back. I have Norton AntiVirus 2004 w/updates. I have SpyBot w/updates. I have A-Squared w/updates. I ran A-Squared, and had the following removed: wnim.dll trojan clicker, bmakn.dll trojan downloader, and adware PerfNav Perfect Navigator. My cable connection is erratic for a day or two because of the last hurricanes. I am doing this late night here while usage is low. So it may be 24 more hours before I can find your reply. Thanks for any help. warecal@coosahs.net Walt

    Here is the message: cannot find the file'c\windows\rundll32.exe' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available

    I posted it in reply format. I downloaded the supposed file, unzipped it and it still does not work.

    If the system isn't finding files, and the files are indeed there, it may be that the PATH has been lost. Check the contents of your c:\msdos.sys file. At the top there should be a PATH section, and the file should look something like this;

    [Paths]
    WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
    WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
    HostWinBootDrv=C

    [Options]
    drvspace=0
    dblspace=0
    BootMulti=0
    BootGUI=0
    BootWarn=0
    Network=0
    LOGO=0
    DoubleBuffer=1
    AutoScan=1
    WinVer=4.10.2222
    Bootkeys=1
    BootMenu=0
    BootMenuDelay=30
    ;
    ;The following lines are required for compatibility with other programs.
    ;Do not remove them (MSDOS.SYS needs to be >1024 bytes).
    ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxa
    ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxb
    ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxc
    ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxd

    Is yours similar? Or is there only a $ in the file?

    (You may have to set My Computer or Windows Explorer Folder Options, View to show all files, and not hide files of known types.)

    I could not open sys file to check it because it says You must have a rundll.exe file to open files of this type sys. I placed the file you sent in Windows. It is a file named Rundll. I open it and the internal file has a windows emblem and it is named rundll32.exe. Do I need to place anything somewhere else, name, rename it?When I turn on the computer, I now get a small box with the rundll.exe file in it. I have minimized it, x-ed it, and neither makes a difference.

    You need to extract the rundll32.exe file to C:\Windows.

    Open the downloaded .zip file. Click on EXTRACT. Ensure All Files is selected and point to the c:\windows directory. If it asks if you want to replace the existing file, choose YES. A system restart is suggested.
