emergency question - how to get into device drivers
how do you open up or edit a device driver? (dont know if thats the right term) my computer isnt saying that it detects a new device. it detected it yesterday but i didnt have the right driver for it. i needed to come back to it. i cant get back into the area where i can edit the driver.
also.. if your computer isnt detecting any hardware how do you force it to?
i plug my ipod into my usb port and computer wont let me do anything. it worked fine a couple times yesterday and today literally nothing is happening.

Right click my computer and choose device manager. Then you can scroll down til you see one with a yellow exclamation mark. Right click, select properties and you should be able to see the drivers section for it and update.

"how do you open up or edit a device driver?"
As Tassie Devil outlined.
"also.. if your computer isnt detecting any hardware how do you force it to?"
Control Panel, Add/Remove Hardware.
"i plug my ipod into my usb port and computer wont let me do anything. it worked fine a couple times yesterday and today literally nothing is happening."
Using Device Manager, remove all instances of the ipod/drivers. Disconnect the devices according to the manufacturers instructions.
Reboot/Restart.
Then, again following the manufacturers directions, install the device. (Some/most want the software (drivers) installed before actually connecting the device to the system.)

Since your ipod thingie (sorry, I'm not a fan) works on USB, therein, resolution should be seeked. In Device Manager, are there any yellow exclamation marks involving the USB attributes of the system?
(Note that devices should be "installed/connected" when perusing troubleshooting.)
