stream manager

Re: stream manager
see what you can come up with. Manufacturer has been questioned about it, but won't be available with answer till Monday, 7/25.

Does it seem like this is a side effect of a bargain basement modem ($22)? Is it possible that more money might fix this? According to Compusa, they don't have to be real expensive.
-
I won't be able to come up with much more until I know the make/model number of the modem.
Please post this info. Also post the make/model (if any) of the system. Motherboard in particular.
-
Its a SupraMax 56k internal modem, model # SM56LE-SL. Motherboard name is PCCHIPSM825VXX. Motherboard ID is longer than both your arms and legs combined, but is available. Machine is custom made locally.

PCI modem?
If so, not sure if this link will get you there as it has "members" embedded in the url, and that pertains to me. But anyway, let me know if this works for you.
http://members.driverguide.com/drive...riverid=132731
The pursued file is 2260.exe. It's driver files/information for;
Win98, Win98SE, WinNT4, Win2000
Post back with problems, questions, results. Thanks. The D-A-L team.

What is this link for? I have the disk that came with the modem (yes, PCI). Should I erase the driver and reinstall the one off the disk. Whenever I delete the modem and restart, the machine finds a driver and puts it in. Should I delete and reinstall from the disk?

"I have the disk that came with the modem"
Is it a floppy disc or a CD? If it's a floppy, these can go bad over time/use. In which case I'd try the downloaded drivers. (The link is a source for the drivers download.) You can always go back to the other drivers.
"Whenever I delete the modem and restart, the machine finds a driver and puts it in."
That's because files are placed in the c:\windows\inf directory when hardware support files are installed. It's one of the places the system looks for drivers/hardware information when a path isn't specified. Basically, once they're dumped there, they're left there until you format again. (Unless you're really diligent and track/remove these things.)
Download the file to somewhere convenient, run it, it will create C:\DIAMOND SUPRAMAX 2260. Within this directory are the various O/S driver sub-directories for the modem. When updating the drivers, point to the appropriate sub-directory.
-
what if the driver is provided on a CD? Also, this message never showed up before this modem was installed, so I am suspicious. Lately the message has shown up more often.
-
CD's are far more stable than floppies for media storage. If you're using the drivers from that CD, and that CD came with the modem, it should be fine.
Can you compare the driver files on your CD to the files generated by the 2260.exe file?
-
could not compare. Took machine in for a look at the CD burner, and that was a software. In solving it, the repair guy also fixed this problem. I haven't seen that screen since it came home the last time. Good Riddance!
