saving files to dvd r-rw discs

Hi, I recently bought a Cibox dvd re-writer and as I use cakewalk to record guitar music etc I thought it would be better to back up song files (not wav files) onto dvd rewritable dvd's as some music files are quite large. My problem is that when I use InCD (nero) to format a disc, it lets me save the file but then the disc just keeps spinning for ever and locking up my pc. When it does finnaly stop I can't retreive the information. I even tried using the make data disc in nero but it tells me it can't save to this dvd disc. I'm very confused as wer'e always being told to back up work but after buying a rewriter drive I still cant afford to risk saving my work? Any advice please, thanks.
I run a dell pentium lll 850 / 20gb hd / 384 ram using philips and imation discs

If I recall correctly, InCD is the Nero program for burning data to CD or DVD through the file system, i.e. you can go to File > Save in your application and save direct to the DVD drive or you can drag and drop a file onto the DVD drive in Windows Explorer etc. You might need to right-click on the drive and choose the option to commit the data to the disc or close the CD session, etc in order to make the disc available again.

Do you have another normal DVD recording program such as Easy CD/DVD Creator or the full Nero application? What happens when you record a disc through that - does it all work OK?

Is this DVD drive internal or have you got it plugged into a USB port? If it's USB, have you downloaded the USB driver update for Windows 98 (available from Windows Update or from http://support.microsoft.com/downloads)?

Are you sure that the version of the InCD software that you're using is fully supported on Windows 98?

Hi, The drive is internal, I have the full nero and still can't add data through that either. What I found out last night is that every dvd rw disc I put in is automatically being loaded with files called nero mdia player audio 191 Mb and then tells me I have no space left on my disc. It will not let me delete it or erase disc as it says it is write protected. I didn't ask it to load these files but I can't stop it as it freezes my screen and eject does'nt work untill its finnished loading. I now have 5 dvd rw discs unusable or erasable I'm at my wits end as they are new out of the packet and I cannot use them to back up my files.

If you insert one of the DVD discs into the drive and then right-click on the drive in Windows Explorer, do you have a 'Make writeable' option? If you do, click it and then see if you can record to the disc.

Howya, No don't have that option, but last night I uninstalled and reinstalled nero & InCD this actually allowed me to erase disc. The only problem is that when its erased the disc its still placing an audio file with ext .cda 191 Mb and telling me the disc has no Mb left to work with. It also will not allow me to manually delete the file telling me its write protected. I don't know what on earth the audio file is or where its coming from. This only happens with my DVD-Rw discs and not my CD-Rw discs. By the way if I try to play the audio file to see what it is I'm told the file ext isn't recognised.
    Totaly lost!
