When I try to enlarge my Windows settings to fill the screen - the screen goes black. As soon as I click on "settings" this ocurrs.

Sounds like you might have a graphics card / monitor conflict. Could you right-click on 'My Computer' on the desktop, select Properties from the menu and then click the Device Manager tab in the System Properties screen? Look under Display Adapters and Monitors and verify that the right graphics card and monitor are configured. In particular, look for multiple or duplicate entries and any that have a yellow exclamation mark symbol next to them.
