Talking BAH! Explorer has created an error in <unknown>

Ok ... well, here's the deal.

I installed an older game (like 90s type era) on my computer; pretty much according to my previous experiences, it corrupted my video display files and I could no longer use my desktop/profile afterwards.

This is not an unprecedented event; fortunately I DO have backups of my pfile / user.dat on my hard drive.

However, oddly enough, when I copied over my last GOOD copy of my user.dat and log on, it boots up no further then EXPLORER HAS CAUSED AN ERROR IN <UNKNOWN> AND WILL NOW CLOSE.

At that point in time, I can't do anything except reboot.

Now, I am certain this is a minor problem that can be easily resolved, but unfortunately I am having trouble seeing how.

Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas on how to fix this without having to recreate my entire user profile?

(All the other profiles on this computer are still fully functional)

    Please ... help!

    *is so lost*

    Peas and tank you kindlees!

That error is usually associated with Malware as seen here:

    http://www.pctoday.com/techsupport/d...&ErrorID=26432

    Try this scan:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

Note any files that it can't disinfect & remove manually.

After that you might want to consider posting a HijackThis log:

    http://www.isecurity.org.uk/downloads/hijackthis.zip

    in the HijackThis section:

The top one was easy as I had done it earlier; the second one took time but its done.

And the hijack is easy; I thought I cleaned mine earlier, but I will repost.

Thank you AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN Jephree!
    ^^

    BTW - HJT Log here.

No problem ... here to help ... at least try.

I am sure your log will be read soon by an expert ... the only thing that stands out to me is KAZAA

There is a removal tool here (bottom of page) if you are interested:

KazaaBegone: A Kazaa uninstaller which scans and removes all elements of all Kazaa versions, as well as all of the bundled software that comes with it.

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Did BitDefender find anything? Anything it could not remove?

Ya, BitDefender pulled out about 15 things it ended up having to delete (some stuff it tried to update? But that wasn't successful...)

Unfortunately my profile still isn't working; I think I will just have to remake or something ...

    Hi,Elzeothis

Here something you can try may help not sure

    have a look here

    C:\Documents and Settings\Current User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat

& just Move the file UsrClass.dat out of that directory and log back in
but move that file some where you can get to it just incase

The file is going to be recreated if all gos well just delete the old one
    that you saved before.

Thanks for your continuing help, HJThis.

Unfortunately, with or without a user.dat I still get no further then the explorer <unknown> error when using that pfile.

I have remade a new one and I copied over all my OTHER files except the user.dat, so I guess from now on I will just focus on getting my computer bug and mal and spy and ad ware free.

Thanks again for your continuing assistance!
