I am trying to complete a thorough scandisk on my computer but it will not complete. It might get to about 250,00 and then all of a sudden the computer freezes and the only thing I can do is to restart the computer. Very frustrating! Can anyone help?

I solved this exact same problem for a client's computer running Win ME.
Win ME is very intolerant of "competing" (ie. simultaneously running )background processes/programs. The client's program had 2 virus's, and over 300 spyware programs all competing for resources.
Run the following programs to clean your computer:
> a good, up to date anti-virus program..then..
> run "adaware"... then..
> run "Spybot Search & destroy"..
If it's still not solved..then..
> run other anti-trojan & anti-Hijack this programs.
That should solve the problem ..if it's not you Windows OS files being corrupted. If it still doesn't work.. then use the "repair" function on your Win ME installation disk.
