Windows 2000 pro start up error?

Hi there, can anyone help me?
I am running windows 2000 pro and recently when I turn on the computer I get a message that says cannot find the file C:\program. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Spongebob45

    Hi spongebob45,
    Is
    cannot find the file C:\program
    the entire error message??
Does windows boot at all OR is this error message just text on a blank screen??
If it's a blank screen then the Windows OS isn't booting because of a corrupted file (ie. from a virus, a crash, a "update" from MS .. etc.).
If Windows OS has started & then you get this message.. then it's probably because of another program Windows can't find...
First, run a virus scan/removal program .. then re-start your computer.
If the problem is still not fixed.. then..
Goto Start>Run> & type in "MSCONFIG" (without the quotes)... then look at the list for anything "funny" (ie. programs that are not Microsoft). Then, disable any programs not needed. BE CAREFUL.. make sure you have a backup of all your files & programs BEFORE you do this...Then..
    re-start your computer.
    HOPE THIS HELPS

Your system is trying to load up a program that has a long filename (e.g. one that has spaces in it like "C:\Program Files\....") but it isn't surrounded by double quotes. Therefore, Windows only reads it as far as the space. It can't find anything called "C:\Program" so that's why you get the error. First thing to check would be MSCONFIG as RGPHNX suggested. However, you've posted another thread about a virus/trojan you've got so you may find that it's related to that.

If you've got multiple problems, get rid of the virus and then download and run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. If the problems persist, download and run HiJack This (a diagnostics tool) and post us a copy of the log file that it creates. We should be able to see the "C:\Program" issue in that log file.
