Help!!:-( Win 98se install problems
Hello there, I am desperate for some help with regard to installing windows 98se cd. I have created a boot floppy, booted with option 1, with option 2, transfered files using sys c, sys x, tried typing
ren c:\windows\win.com win.moc
tried typing x:\setup c:\setup
Basically i have tried everything i have read everywhere but cant get into my win98se setup disk.
at A prompt i always get message saying invalid input , or something like this.
I have spent 3 days trying to solve this and now its starting to get me down. I am only doing this as a favour for my friends parents!!!!!
Any help will be fully appreciated.
Regards offerman

What boot disk are you using?
-
It was a windows 98 boot disk.

When you use this boot floppy, are you indeed ending up at an A:\> prompt?
Is the CDROM drive assigned a device letter?
Is a RAMDRIVE created?
Is the floppy drive set as the first boot device in the bios?
-
Hello Dan, Thanks for your reply. My Cdr is assigned a letter which is d.
When i use a floppy i do end up with prompt A, I did change to c, and then E as i followed links from another helper here.
I have set the floppy as primary boot in the bios also.
I`m not sure about Ram setup though. I did type sys c and sys x and file transfer took place.
Dan I`d be in full appreciation if you could help me out of this hole i`m in at the mo.
Cheers John.

Try this bootdisk. Download the file to somewhere convenient, place a floppy in your drive then click on the image file. This will format your floppy disk and then copy the files to create the finished bootdisk.
When you boot with this floppy, watch for the drive letter assigned to your CDROM. (Near the end of the boot process.) Your CDROM device letter will be bumped up one letter. If it was normally D: it will now be E: as a RAMDRIVE is created for housing the tools which may be needed to set up drives etc.
Put your O/S CD in the CDROM drive and type in;
x:\setup (where x is the assigned device letter)
and setup should start. If it doesn't, or you experience further problems post back. Also post back if everything is fine, just to let us know, so this thread can be marked as solved in the forum index.

Is your bios set as A: being the first boot device?
