    Re: Help!!:-( Win 98se install problems

    Dan, I will try this option. Thx again for all your help.
    Previously i tried installing a win98 upgrade disk, this went to install ok until it asked me for the original no. from the original cdr install disk for that computer. Of course i didnt have that as its not my pc.Any way round this if this last ditch effort doesnt` work?

    Also must confess, I have a laptop that i bought from the states on ebay. It was running M.E, So i used a programme given to me by the same person who gave me this dudwin98se disk!!!! Oh No i hear you cry!! The programme was to create a partion and would also formatt my laptop when chosen. Well i thought i created a partion, carried out the formatt, but again could not install X.P on to it. Its a pentiumII 6.5G.B. My problem here is that i don`t have internal cdr so use external , which is now not recognised by the laptop. I get power to the X CDR but can`t reinstall X.P from it?? The X.P is an original from my home P.C Dell pentiumIIII. I also have colour coded disks for applications, drivers, dell picture studio etc. How do i go about installing that disk onto my laptop.?

    Apologies for the long script, I`m a bit ****e at explaining:-)

    Many thx for any help you can offer me on this prob.

    Cheers John.

    Sorry for the delay. I was getting "Problems with the database" errors when I tried to get in, so I gave it an hour or so to heal. ;>)

    There are ways around this yes, but it is considered as pirating software if you don't have your own, legally obtained, Operating System CD. This site neither contributes to, nor condones using these methods. All people utilizing this site are bound by this rule. If we see a posting providing instructions to this end, it is immediately deleted, with the potential of the poster being banned from returning to this site.

    As far as your other problem of loading XP onto a laptop;

    Create a new posting in the XP forum for this as it's a new issue, plus a different O/S. Make sure you post the make/model of the laptop, and any other relevant information as to the hardware etc of that system, and we (D-A-L) can go from there.

    In the meantime, here's some reading in case we have to go this route. As my signature says......
