    Actual RAM & slow boot

I had someone install a faster burner on my computer. Now my computer seems to take much longer to boot up. Why? Can I speed it up? (once its up, it seems fine)

Also, I should have 512 of RAM but when I right click on My Computer, and go to properties and performance, it says only 384 RAM which it initially came with. How can I find the REAL 512 RAM? I want to make sure that its still there.

By a faster burner are you refering to a new CD or DVD drive?

Was any burning software installed? If so was it set to run on startup?

Here is a little app you can use to check out your startup:

    http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr...autoruns.shtml

Open the View tab & choose all "Show". Then click File & Save As then post as an attachment here.

As to your RAM: did you just add new RAM? What does the BIOS count?

Run this scan & post back the results:

I've attached the files you asked for. I don't think the DAL Hardware thing worked. All I got for answers was VALUE. Nothing more. I ran it on Compuserve and Internet Explorer.

I've got loads of stuff booting up when I start up. How can I get rid of all this?!?!?!?

    Any suggestion would be helpful.

    Try this scan:

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

    Look under Memory Modules.

Also: do you see the RAM count in the BIOS POST of your computer? If you only get a computer logo screen perhaps there is an option for Summary.

Also can you describe what this faster burner was/is?

Also post another Autoruns scan checking only:
    Show Appinit DLLs
& then all 3 below the line

I ran that thing and it said I only had 384 memory. Not the 512 that it is supposed to be. Could it have come loose?

I don't mnow what "BIOS POST" is. I didn't see anything like that.

Also, I ran another Autoruns scan but had no idea how to check only:
    Show Appinit DLLs
& then all 3 below the line

I've attached todays on this post.

The old burner that came w/ the computer was 4x, this one is 52x. Both internal. That's about it!

How can I FIX this stuff!?!?!

How many slots were listed? And how much in each slot? Do you know how many slots you have?

When you first power up the computer you will either see your computer logo screen or a black screen calculating data: the "BIOS POST". If you get a logo screen usually there are options on the bottom one of which would be summary. Clicking this should show how your computer reads the RAM rather than how Windows reads it.

Click the View tab on the top toolbar of Autoruns & you will see options to check or uncheck.

"How many slots were listed? And how much in each slot? Do you know how many slots you have?"

Do I need to open the computer to find this out?

When the HP logo is up do I need to hit F2 or F3 or something to get the Bios Post up?

I can't click the VIEW tab. Its shaded out.

The RAM should be listed with Belarc under:
Memory Modules (mine for example has 2 slots):

    512 Megabytes Installed Memory

    Slot '0' has 256 MB
    Slot '1' has 256 MB

My HP Logo screen has the options on the bottom of the screen. F2 will take you into the BIOS Setup. F3 or F4 should show the Summary. I will verify the next time I boot.

Open Autoruns & let it fully load. If the toolbar View remains shaded out try the Refresh icon "circular arrows" beneath the Entry tab.
