fatal exception 06
Please can anyone help, I uninstalled nero 2 then tried to re-install but got a message that nero had'nt completed uninstall so reboot. I rebooted but just as my desktop is appearing the screen goes black before displaying Fatal Exception 06 at 0000:00000063 has occured.This happens evertime I reboot.If I try to start in safe-mode It does the same just as safe-mode is starting. I also had turned off my norton internet security and asked it not to come on untill next reboot. I hav'nt a clue what to do to get into my computer and can't afford to call someone out. I also havn't backed up my cakewalk music files or photo's and hope I hav'nt lost them.

Are you sure of the error message; Fatal Exception 06? Have a look here or here. Post back if these don't apply.

cheers Dan, yes I checked the message and it is 06. from some information gathered on microsoft support you sent me to it seems that 06 could refer to an previously installed antivirus, and coincidently I did uninstall my old norton and replaced it with norton internet security suite only recently, so maybe if I can get back into my comp, I could sort it out?

Hopefully so. Try running msconfig and unchecking the AV and Security Suite entries under the Startup tab. (Start, Run, msconfig.) See if the problem persists with these unchecked.

Hi Dan, the problem is I cant get past the fatal exception screen to use my msconfig.
as my desktop starts to open it crashes to the blue screen and I cant get any further. it wont even start in safe mode.

If it won't start in safe mode either, try a Step by Step load. (I think that's what it's called, been a long time. You'll see it on the menu, see below.) Confirm each load until you get the blue screen. Then reboot, and do the same, just skip the confirm on the failed item. Keep this up until you get into windows.
When you first power up, right after or at the POST screen, start tapping the Ctrl key. You should get the MS Start Menu. You have to be quick.
Failing this, you can ~try~ rolling back the registry, but based upon the date of your original post, it may be too late. Unless you've changed the defaults, windows only saves backups for the last five calendar boot dates.
Boot as above and choose Command prompt only. When you get the C:\> prompt, type in;
scanreg/restore
and hit Enter. Pick a date which preceeds the problem occurring. If this works, you may have to reinstall some of the MS updates to your system, and any software (which writes to the registry, most do) you loaded after the selected date.
If the above doesn't work, try a reinstall of the O/S over the top of itself. ie; no formatting, just a reinstall. During an "over the top" reinstall, windows will find your c:\windows directory and your previous registry. It will want to install to c:\windows.000. At this point, redirect it to c:\windows.
Post back with any developments.

Dan, I'm sorted at last. A guy in it I got chating to took my hrad drive an managed to extract my folders/files. He then gave me a bootup disc and I managed to wipe the drive clean reformat and reload windows. He now is droping my files back on. I'm a happy camper again. Thanks for your advice though its good to know there are still people willing to help others these days.
