    computer locks up 100% calculation

My system 2000 pro occassionally locks up. When I check Task Manager I find that the "services.exe" file is executing at 100%. It will continue to process at 100% for 1-4 minutes and then release and back to normal. Running behind Adware, norton, Sysbot.

Sure would like to catch this demon.

services.exe is a part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System and manages the operation of starting and stopping services. This process also deals with the automatic starting of services during the comptuers boot-up and the stopping of servicse during shut-down. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Note: services.exe is also a process which is registered as the W32.Randex.R Trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. It is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately.

To the above statement, how would you recommend this be verified that theW32.Randex.R be verified present and if so removed?

    From the above link:

    1. Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
    2. Update the virus definitions.
    3. Restart the computer in Safe mode or VGA mode.
    4. Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as W32.Randex.R.
    5. Delete the values that were added to the registry.
One of the the most comprehensive scans on-line is this:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

Select all options for scanning (including FIX). This may take a couple of hours. Run it overnight or when you go out as it will consume most of your CPU usage.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. I found that my register was dirty and clogged with too many open and dead files. I used RegSupremePro by Macecraft. It is a great software package. as far as W32.Randex.R Trojan suspect, did not find it after extensive testing. Give Macecraft a try 30 day free trail.
