permission for system settings in connection with Java
I just installed the lastest version of Sun Java and it wouldn't work. I enabled everything but in the Java control panel when I checked the box to enable applets in Internet Explorer, I get a browser warning message. It says the browser settings have not been changed and to check to see if I have the proper permissions to change system settings. I had an older version of Java before my system crashed and never had this problem. I'm stumped. I was going to uninstall and try to reinstall but Java isn't listed in my add and remove programs. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have Windows ME and just upgraded to the lastest version of IE. I have no idea if this is a windows problem, IE problem or Java problem. Thanks.

The latest Java would be listed as J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 (& Update 1)
When you click Tools up on the tool bar do you see: Sun Java Console?
Also from Tools open Internet Options Advanced click under Java (Sun): Use JRE 1.5.0_01

hello, and thank you. I was looking for Java, not J2SE Runtime environment. I removed it and reinstalled. Now it works perfect. So thank you so much. Liza
