    error 1406 and installing problems

I am trying to install my bluetooth software, and it comes up with error 1406-could not write value to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE verify you have sufficient access to key etc etc.. I do have administrators access, but still cannot do it. Also on trying to uninstall any programs from my pc, i get NSIS error, error initializing uninstaller!

    As to uninstall issues:

    Download and run Ccleaner; http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

After you have done that go to "options" in Ccleaner, then "uninstall" ,then select the program you wish to uninstall.

As to bluetooth is this the exact error:

Error 1406. Could not write value VersionMinor to key \Products\B21788FC3A611A546B5CE8C60D06E816\Install Properties. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

    [Abort] [Retry] [Ignore]

This thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/6/122174 suggests just repeatedly pressing ignore & or updating your USB drivers.
It also suggests a possible authentication issue.

Also this in more general terms:

    Error 1406

As this applies to InstallShield it might involve both your issues.

One of the recommendations being to download the latest version of Windows Installer which was released April 12. You will find it via Windows Update.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you, but no, that is not the full error message i get, it is as i said, literally just error 1406. could not write value to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE, verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel.
I did download the ccleaner, and ran it, then went to the uninstall window, but i still got the NSIS error, error initializing uninstaller!!

I have also had problems downloading updates from windows updates, and other various downloads as when they download, it then says cannot find file specified, i have just had one saying error 2, cannot find file specified when i've downloaded a file to my documents folder...

Is this a new problem? Were things ok previously?

Here are 2 things to look at:

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000

yes, things were fine until i installed a second hard drive as a slave drive last week, which i have formatted, but have not used yet, there is nothing on it at all.
And i just downloaded the installer cleanup and got the message Error creating process <msiexec.exe /i msicuu.msi>. Reason: The system cannot find the file specified

    Read this:

Also I would suggest removing that new hard drive to see if it clears up your issues.

    See what you see here:

look in your Event viewer via: Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with these issues.
