    Resetting the computer

How do I reset the hard drive to a back date, I know you lose all of your files but I just want to start the hard drive over from scratch. I think it has something to do with the F12 key during boot up, but I don\\\'t know what to do from there. I have a Dell XPS T600r. Thanks for the help.

There are three ways you can do this.

If you have "Dell Restore" cd(s) you can start your system with these and follow the prompts. This restores your system to factory loads. There is usually a format involved, erasing everything on c:.

You can boot with a boot disk and format c: and reload if you have an O/S install cd.

In the root directory of c: there is (usually) a "system.1st" file, which will have hidden and read only attributes assigned. In c:\windows you will have "system.dat" with the same attributes. Remove the attributes on both files. Rename c:\system.1st to system.dat, then copy this to c:\windows, over writing the file there. This "restores" windows to it's first fresh load state. All your files will still be there, however, any applications to run certain files will have to be reinstalled. Such as MS WORD or MS OFFICE, etc.
