    Have you the boot disc (a floppy) and the win 98se disc ?
    you may need to format the disc before installing but if the disc you have is an upgrade i think you may need a windows system on there first

    I have the windows 98se installation disc,but no floppy.I already have windows 98 installed,but to use broadband on my pc I need windows 98se or more.
    I cannot install it because it asks for a windows 98 ugrade first.

    Make a bootdisk on the machine. Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Startup Disk. Shut down and then boot the machine with the bootdisk choosing cdrom support. (You may have to enter cmos and set A: as the first boot device.)

    Watch for the device letter assigned to your cdrom on the floppy boot. When you get the A:\> prompt, type in;

    ren c:\windows\win.com win.moc

    and hit Enter. Then type in;

    x:\setup (where x is the device letter assigned to the cdrom)

    and hit Enter. Setup should start. It will want to install to c:\windows.000 but correct this to c:\windows.

    Post back with any problems.

    Hi Dan.
    I don't think i will be able to boot disk my machine.I cannot find my windows 98 disc( possibly lost it in a house move). All I have is my brand new windows 98se disc, and obviously with my machine using windows 98.
    Is there another way I could install windows 98se without the use of the windows 98 disc.

    Many thanks

    P.S Please explain any detail in simple terms.

    Download this bootdisk image and run it. This file will create a bootdisk on your floppy. Don't just copy this image file to a floppy. It has to be run to create the bootdisk.
