I turn on the computer and this comes up

error loading explorer.exe
you must reinstall windows
then i press ok and another box comes on and it says
error starting program
a required. dll file.
shlwapi dll. was not found.

i need help please

Sounds like you've just installed the latest Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1. I've just read about someone else with an identical problem after they did that yesterday.

Put your Windows 98 boot disk / Startup Disk into the floppy drive and your original Windows 98 CDROM into the CDROM drive. Reboot.

The PC will start up from the floppy disk and, after a couple of minutes, will present you with a DOS prompt (A:>).

At the A:> prompt, type D: and press Enter.

At the D:> prompt, type CD WIN98 and press Enter.

At the D:\Win98> prompt, type extract /a /y /e /l c:\windows\system base4.cab shlwapi.dll and press Enter.

Once it's finished, remove the CDROM and floppy disk and reboot the PC.

Guess what guys i bought this computer 2 hand and i didnt get a cd for 98 windows. now what do i do

find someone with a copy of windows 98 and copy the file from that disc, I don't know if the file is available to download anywhere.

Is that a breach of DAL's illegal software rule?

Since you don't have access to the CD perhaps point to the following path

c:\windows\options\cabs

Bear : do i do this with another computer c:\windows\options\cabs
because i cant get on the one im talking about . im on another computer in the house. ACHORSTE i have been trying to look for a cd but know one has a computer cd to lend me or they dont have the same computer.
