Computer keeps looking for "A" drive on right click

I have a problem on my girlfriend's computer running ME. When I right click on "Start" or a file name in Windows Explorer, I hear a ticking as if the OS is looking for a disk in the "A" drive. It clicks for about 10 seconds and then opens the context menu. Sometimes it ticks a bit when shutting down. Any suggestions?

Have you got Norton Anti-Virus installed? There's options in there for scanning floppy drives. Try switching off those settings.

I have Norton System Works installed and I turned off the "scan floppy drives" option in Norton AV.

Sorry, I meant to add this in my reply...
no, it's still clanking (with the "A" drive light on) when I right click.
