I have fdisk and formatted HDD and will now probably purchase xp, tho. I have 3 win. 98 discs without code, are they any good?
-
Not really. You could sell them on Ebay (clearly marked as "CD only - no Certificate Of Authenticity") but they're only worth a few pounds - you need the serial number and Certificate Of Authenticity to legally install them. If you don't have a serial number, you won't be able to complete the installation process, so they'll be no use to anyone.
PCs that were designed for use with Windows Millennium (ME) often won't run Windows XP very well. Are you sure that you're PC is up to it, i.e. do you know what spec it is?

I have installed xp, ok except I would like to know how to configure power management in CMOS screen to power off when I select turn off from start menu, worked ok in ME I have disabled it but need to know what setting should be, ACP, ACPI, ACP/ACPI? any ideas?

I've never come across "ACP" power management before. ACPI is the standard power management protocol that allows Windows to automatically turn off the PC. Depending on what level of ACPI you've got, it might also allow you to put the PC in Standby mode and, normally for laptops, there's a Hibernate or Suspend-To-Disk option on some systems.

I have sorted power off by power options in control panel and check APM tab, thank you anyway, I have visited your site, very interesting , may be in touch.

OK - thanks for the update
