Re: Format C:
The link i posted above should create a bootable floppy disk which will boot you into the Powermax Environment
-
From the PowerMax site;
"The files will extract on to the floppy diskette, creating a bootable version of the PowerMax utility. Do not download PowerMax directly to a floppy. PowerMax extracts from a Win32 environment only and will not extract from 16-bit DOS mode."
Can you run the file to create the floppy on the machine you're using to communicate with this board?

Apologies, the reason Powermax wouldn't work is because I copied it straight onto a floppy. Having now followed the correct procedure it operates perfectly, which, unfortunately, is far more than can be said for the drive. Apart from Burn In, which I didn't try and Quick Format it failed every test. Thanks for all your help, at least there is no more puzzling and I know what course of action to take.
Many thanks again,

Sorry to hear your drive is probably toast, but at least now you know what's what.
Personal opinion; I will not buy a Maxtor or Quantum drive. I've seen too many fail within two to four years. I prefer Western Digital or Seagate. Again, personal opinion.

Same from here, sorry that your drive went belly up
Happened to me twice already, i know how crappy that is.
