    Question ME networking troubles

I have two computers both running 'ME'. I have run the networking wizard on both computers but I can not find either computer on the network. I am running both threw a network hub and then to a DSL modem. Any Ideas?

Firstly, simplify the hardware as much as possible - take out the modem so that you've only got 2 PCs with 2 network cards, 2 network cables and 1 hub that they are both plugged into.

Have you set them both up on the same workgroup?

Have you given them both different IP addresses in the same range?

Do they both have Client for Microsoft Networks installed and TCP/IP?

Are you running them to the hub with standard CAT5 cabling? The cables that you use to connect one computer directly to another are a different kind of cable that won't work with a hub.

Are there any LEDs on the hub? Do they light up?

I Did have my network working when only one computer ran ME and one computer ran 98. For the most part my cabling and hub does work fine.
I have checked that both computers Have the same settings (workgroup, TCP/IP)however because of the way my Internet is set up I have a rotating IP address. Is this posssibly the cause?

I wouldn't think so but did you try it with the modem disconnected like I suggested?

"I have a rotating IP address"

As long as you have your router settings set to use DHCP having a dynamic Ip address (Dynamic IPs change periodically) it shouldn't cause any problems with your network. HTH

Thanks for your input!!! I have fixed the problem and felt rather silly about it. It turns out that I did not have NETBIEU installed on either computer. After a quick install both computers are networked.
