Smile Need help upgrading to Windows 98 SE

    Hello,
We recently had to put a computer back to the factory setting because of a deleted file, but now we can't get the computer upgraded back to windows 98. It has been upgraded to windows 98se before. We have the windows 98se
disk but when we try to upgade it says that the system is already running a form of windows. If anyone knows how to get this computer to take this again we would greatly apreciate it.

Is it running 98 or 95 now?
It sounds like 98 SE is a full version not an upgrade. You would have to format the drive, boot from the cd and install it that way. Note, you'll lose everything on the drive. Probably better to take it to a shop where they could transfer everything over if its important.

    Tina,

Last week, you wrote "My dad got the computer fixed. He had to put his original windows 95 disk in and then he upgraded to windows 98 again"

Is this the same PC that you're now upgrading to Windows 98 SE? From Windows 98?

Yeah it's the same computer that I wrote about last week. After my dad put it back to the factory settings he couldn't get it to upgrade back to windows 98. It's now running windows 95 but he can't use his printer or camera unless it gets it back to windows 98.
Well, he figured out how to upgrade it to the 98 but his he still can't use his printer or camera because somehow the computer shows nothing about having usb ports. I have no clue as to what he did to not have them now. They won't even show up in the device manager. Would he have to download the software from the internet or what?
Thankyou all for all of your help cause as he tears it up I am learning how to go behind him and fix it.

Oh I see. Two possible things to look at:

    1. Go into Device Manager. At the bottom of the list, you should find one or more USB Host Controllers present. If the USB controllers aren't there, then the ports are not working. If this is the case, it is likely that you need to install a driver for the USB ports from the CD that came with the PC or the motherboard.

    2. There is a problem of some kind (I'm not sure of the details) with USB ports in Windows 98 and Microsoft have a fix for it. Click here for details of it on the Microsoft site:
