I have a compaq presario monitor and im using a gateway 2000 monitor. i needed to restore from the restore cd, and after i did, the resolution is stuck on 640X480. Before i restored it, i had it on a larger resolution but i don't remember how i did it. Could it be that the default driver in my compaq is a certain one because it thinks im using a compaq monitor? in other words, is stuck resolution ever because of the monitor, or always because of the video card?
Most likely you need to reinstall the video drivers.
Can you ID the card?
all i know is SiS530 . I see that in device manager. is that the name of the card or the driver? please help!
go to start | run | dxdiag
under the Display tab what is Device? & what is Driver?
That would be your on-board chip set.Originally Posted by jonfoster999
You can find those drivers here:
SIS 530VGA driver dated 02/02/2000
But I suspect your drivers were "rolled back" to this chip when you restored 98.
If dxdiag detects another video device (card) then we need to search that manufacturer for its' drivers.
ok thats got me interested, i already tried downloading the SiS530 driver and nothing happened, whats this dxdiag you speak of? what's weird is that when i first got this setup from my sister it was the same problem...but then i got the internet, and through the coarse of me going through web sites and downloading various things such as videos and stuff and media player downloading updated codecs and things, one day i was just able to change the resolution. i never messed with the drivers...does that make any sense?
click the "start" button then "run" & type in: dxdiag (or maybe dxdiag.exe)
sorry98 was a long time ago
![]()
then look under the display tab
ok i ran the program, what information from it do you need to know
under Display
