ok...sorry for a stupid question: but you said you added a cd writer & then you say your trying to play a dvd?

is it a dvd/cd/r/w? you may want to post its' details for others that might know more.

have you tried looking at the device manager to check drivers & status etc.?

there's two devices. One is a writer and the other is a dvd readed. I'm really new at this but know a little. where do i go to check device status.

from your other post i imagine it is a jumper problem

but to awnser your question here (i use xp & dont know ME) but right click "my computer" look for manage/ device manager?

or under my computer right click on the drive in question and then properties?

XP and older operating systems are similar in the screens they use for this Jephree - just that XP puts everything in an illogical or unfamiliar place where you can't find it

For Windows ME, you right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties from the context menu. In the Properties windows, click the Device Manager tab.

There should be a group for 'DVD/CD-ROM drives'. Double-click that to check that the two drives have been detected by Windows. Note that any that appear with an exclamation mark next to them have got a problem.
