I have reinstalled win 98 SE on an IBM aptiva computer. It works great except it freezes on the win 98 splash screen. I can reset and it will come up with the choice of starting in safe mode, normal and ect. I click normal and it works. No freezing. I have ran a regit fixer program but no luck it still freezes. Any help will be greatly appricated.

2 things you can try:

Boot into DOS Prompt then type:

1. sfc /scannow

& or

2. SCANREG /RESTORE

you will need to insert your disk when prompted.

OK, I ran the SCANREG. Came up no errors. I did a restore. Restarted pc and it froze on win 98 splash screen. I then did a hard shut down. When I started pc it came on the start up menue. I selected start up normal and it started fine. I don't know why it is freezing on the win 98 splash screen when starting pc. What can I try next? Any ideas? I am willing to try anything to fix this problem.

IT WORKED! I tried 2 of the things I read last night. 1st I held down the turn on button until it shut down and then I unpluged the pc from the electric power. I left it off for 5 min. Then I changed the battery. After doing both of these I turned on the pc and it didn't freeze. I shut it down and restarted a couple of times and it still didn't freeze. So now it is working!! Thank you so much. Problem solved!!
