Mystery Startup Problem

Mystery Startup Problem
Yesterday my computer was just working fine but today when I turned it on it would freeze on the intial screen where it loads up the hard drive and cd drives, etc and would just stay on that screen.
I pressed delete to go into that settings screen and activated "boot up floppy seek" under the "boot" tab.
Restarted it and it froze as usual but this time the light for my floppy disk was on and stayed on.
I have tried to just leave my computer on for about 1/2hr but nothing happens.
Assistance is much appreciated.

What is the computer make & model?
Do you have the manual?
If so look up: "How to clear the CMOS"
Or post the make & model & we can find it on-line.

um AMD Athlon...Asus A7vl-vm (sorry i dont know if thats the correct info)
I also do not have the manual.
-
Asus A7vl-vm is your motherboard & I found that manual here: (PDF)
A7vl-vm
As to the computer is it like a Dell something or other? Or a HP something or other? etc.
Anyway point being are you familiar with how to open the case?
The mobo manual gives instructions on clearing the CMOS as well as practically everything about the BIOS.
-
Its an AMD Athlon
I have no idea what you mean by CMOS...by fixing do you mean I have to actually meddle with the hardware or just change options on the computer?
-
AMD Athlon is your processor.
Is this a custom built machine?
Or any idea if it is a Dell or IBM or Gateway or HP or ... ?
Doesn't it have a label or logo on the tower (perhaps side or back) or even on the startup screen?
Did you have a floppy in the drive when you told it to boot from floppy?
Do you have a ME CD?
Assuming you set the settings to boot from CD can you boot the CD?
If you can't get out of the BIOS POST (which is the RAM count & drive ID etc.)
then you will need to open the computer & work with the hardware.
You can remove the battery & clear the CMOS for starters. It is quite simple if you know how to open the case. That is why knowing what kind of computer it is would help; as we could then find the directions.
The link I posted to your mobo manual has a full list of setup options & commands if you want to check that out.
Just one other "shot in the dark" is unplug the computer from the wall & hold the power button "in" for at least a minute; then plug it back in & try to boot.
