No Sound??
ok. so i just reformated my hard drive from windows me to 98. the only problem im faceing is that i have no sound. when i try to play music it says:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."
but i use to listen to my music before i did the formating. please help. i need my music.

run this scan & post back the multimedia section so that we can ID your sound device.
we can then locate drivers. most likely it's an onboard chip that often gets cleared by an os install.

just to varify: under Multimedia there is nothing listed?
if that is the case; try this scan & post back the info under Sound Card only.

well your computer certainly doesn't want to be scanned
tho from this ID: Gateway PROFILE3 3501091
I can guess at this:
Profile 3 R5
If you can verify that as your model the sound drivers are here:
7508851.exe - Profile 3 Sound driver, version 3004
