Question Using windows media player in me

I am using windows media player 9. Up to now i've had no problems, it played all my music. Now songs seem to have an echo and stick like an old 45 rpm record. (no comments about my age please)
I've checked for updates and this computer won't support the media player 10. While there is plenty to control pertaining to video, theres nothing for audio. Any ideas out there?
P.S. What's up with Microsoft? Everyone I know is having problems with their IE, MSN, messenger, you name it, if it's connected to them lately it's not working right. Thought it was just my old computer, but found out i'm not alone. Sorry, just had to vent.

Considered trying an alternate player like WinAmp and see if they echo and stick there too ? Waht format are those songs, maybe its a Codec problem ?

To test sound outside of WMP9 you can go to

    Start > Run > MPLAYER2.EXE

which will launch Media Player 6.4 built into all windows.

click on File then Open then Browse to your files.

    How do they sound now?

Thanx jephree, tried that. Same problem just not as often. Could it be that i need a older player on this puter?

Thanx jephree & Bad Karma. Bad, your karma must be good because installing
Winamp solved my problems. No skips/echo's just clear sweet music. (My Green Day - American Idiot never sounded so good. Thank you both for the great advice.
And I wish good karma to everyone!
