windows ME fails to start

    windows ME fails to start

    got a new computer left the old one in the closet for about a year got it out to get some old files off of it one time started up no problem got it out a couple of days ago computer just beeps with a black screen disconnected the speaker tried to restart it with a rescue disk no results tried to restart it again with the windows disk no results tested the monitor on another computer it works fine tried to test the computer with a different monitor just a black screen its a 56k computer its a 98/meoem the only thing i did do before tryin to start it was put the memory back in because it was loose added a new keyboard and mouse
    just a note the entire time i owned this computer the red light under the floppy stayed on 24/7 this computer was bought from a computer shop they built it while i waited its 6 years old had nortons and was kept up to date until i got a new computer and quit using it

    The ribbon cable is installed backwards, that's what causes the light to always stay on. Simply open the case and unplug the ribbon cabe flip it over and plug it back in.
