    Re installing Windows ME

For several months I have had system hangs, freezes, shutdowns that don't complete, etc. I have a compag presario 900mhz 4090us.
I sometimes get "error in kernel32.dll" window which won't go away.
I would like to get a clean system install
I have a D partition on the hard drive with (I assume) copies of system files.
How would I go about re-installing windows ME ?
    thanks

To be honest, the problems that you're having sound to me like a typical Windows ME experience! Are you sure that re-installing Windows ME will cure it all? If you're going to go to the effort of wiping your C:\ drive and installing everything from scratch, I would strongly recommend moving to Windows 2000 or XP. From here on in, most software that is being released will only support 2000 or XP and your laptop could probably manage either of those so why not give your system a boost with a newer Windows version?

If you really do want to install Windows ME, you need to create a boot disk. You can get a Windows ME boot disk from www.bootdisk.com.

Once the system is booted up from the floppy disk, you'll need to navigate in DOS to the directory containing your Windows installation files if you don't have them on CD. Then run the Setup.exe file in that directory.

If you don't know where your Windows installation files are, click the Start Menu, then Find (or Search), then Files Or Folders. In the file name box, type *.cab and search your entire hard drive. If you can find a couple of dozen cab files named something like WinME_23.cab, then you've found the folder. If that's on the C:\ drive, you'll need to move it to the D:\ drive before you format the C:\ drive.

Let us know if that's what you need
