Windows 98 SE help please
Hi,
I received an older computer from a family member. It works pretty good, except when I try and shut down, or use anything in the control panel, I get an error message msgrv not responding, and WINMIN, not responding. Also, I can't view pictures without them looking strange and grainy...and can't get my display to change to anything different than 16bit. I think this is caused by the shutdown problem.
Please help me! I appreciate any help. Also I am a little new to this computer stuff so please be gentle.
Thanks
Keri

Tazzie,
Do I need to download this program to a disk...or just save it on my computer. I am really a little slow when it comes to computers. I just haven't had one for that long. Thanks for all of your help.
Sincerely,
Keri Franklin

No, just click on the underlined link that Tassie Devil gave you and that will go to a web page with details about how to download the graphics card drivers. You don't need to save them onto a floppy disk - anywhere on your computer will do.
If they are downloaded as a file with a name ending in .ZIP, then the drivers have been compressed into a single, smaller ZIP file and you'll need to use a program like Winzip to extract the useful files inside the ZIP file. You can get Winzip (which is free to try) by clicking on this link: http://www.winzip.com.
What you do with the extracted files really depends on what kind of files are extracted. If there's a Setup.exe file, simply double-click it and that should install the drivers correctly.
It probably won't be that simple though. I expect you'll need to:
Go to the Start Menu, then Settings, then Control Panel, then double-click the System icon.
Click the Device Manager tab.
Double-click Display Adapters in the list and then double-click the entry for your S3 Trio card.
Click the Driver tab, then click the Update Driver button.
Start the wizard and get it to display a list of drivers.
Click the Have Disk button and browse to wherever it is that you've saved the extracted display driver files and click Open.
Click OK when it confirms where it's going to look for the drivers.
Select your graphics card from the list and click OK or Next to go through the wizard until it completes.
Reboot and the display should be better once Windows starts up again.
