Exclamation HP Pavilion model 8679F issue.

    Hello Board,

Hopefully someone can help me get a handle on this.

My father bought the aforementioned HP. It was actually through a big joint venture by PeoplePC and Ford Motor Co.. Anyway, the system has been reloaded, with a fresh copy of windows 98 S.E., but several things are not working, and he lost the recovery cd's, which wasn't known before the system was reloaded.

    Model: Pavilion 8679F
    System number: P1472Z
    Serial Number: US03554579

If anyone can tell me how to get a copy of these recovery discs, or how to find the necessary drivers for the various componants, I would be most grateful.

    Greetings JamesB,

Just to clarify: when you say, "reloaded w/ a fresh copy", do you mean you installed 98SE from a 98SE disk? If so I wonder why you would need a recovery CD.
    Sorry if I misunderstand.
Anyway here is the HP source for that models software:

    System recovery

although I see this re: recovery disks:

NOTE: HP can not have recovery discs created that contain software considered obsolete by Microsoft, such as Windows 3.1, 95, and 98.

If it's a question of drivers: HP lists some at that site. Or if you list the various components we could search for their drivers.

Ah...thanks Jephree. I actually found a couple isos using a certain common but ubiquitously unnamable program. I don't feel particularly bad though, as he legitimately paid for these disks along with the pc when it was first purchased.

Anyway, to answer your questions, though moot, for the sake of anyone coming along afterwards with the same problem:

I did install from an actual legitimate copy of Win 98 s.e.. The problem was that HP has a bunch of proprietary stuff in this old junker, not the least of which I believe were some of the low level motherboard features, like PCI bus steering or something.

98 had not a clue what to make of most of these on initial boot, and it made installing drivers for other devices very hit and miss, emphasis on the miss, as many things would cause the O.S. to crash.

To finish the story, with the appropriated recovery discs used, everything worked perfectly fine. Well...except for that PeoplePC modem dialer that forces itself on you when you start internet explorer, imploring you to try to connect to a recieving modem that no longer exists.

Fixing that required deleting some source files the P.PC dialer used. There was probably a more elegant way to do it through registry editing but I'm not that proficient.

    Hello,
I too have one of those Ford computers, and desparately need the recovery cds. I tried loading 98SE, but it isn't doing any good with the drivers.

Would you sell me a set? Like I said, I'm pretty desparate. Thanks for any reply.
