Not enough memory available. Quit some programs
I have a home network comprising win98 and XP pcs, which previously worked without problem.
But now I get "Not enough memory available. Quit some programs", when (from win98 pc) i try to open folders/partitions folders on XP machine. I have allowed sharing etc. XP machine can access folders on win98 no problem. I also get memory error when trying to print larger files from win98 pc.
I have few 5? smallish programs running in background and the win98 pc has 128 ram (I know it isn;t a lot, but it worked before)and 75-81% of system resources free. I have 2 HDD with a few partitions in win98. C drive has 30% free space (5gb, up from 2gb).
I have run anti virus, spybot etc and hijackthis programs etc.
I have sygate firewall on both pcs and XP can access folders on win98 pc from XP without any problem and settings seem identical.
I wonder if this memory problem has something to do with size of swap files. I used Norton to optimise windows when space was limited. I wonder if Norton has caused the problem. I tried changing virtual memory, but this doesn;t seem to give any improvement.
Memtest and scanreg shows no problems.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Maxtor disks are also shown only as generic in my computer, alhtough bios shows Maxtor. Maxtor test program shows disks are good. It looks like a software problem, but what?

I now have the same problem with my network. Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows 98SE are not able to access my WinXPSP2 computer. They could the older windows now get the error "Not enough memory is available: quit some programs". There are two changes I made to my winXPSP2 computer that may have caused this. I installed and uninstalled ZoneAlarm. I installed Norton Anitvirus 2005 along with the rest of 2005 System Works. I am inclined to believe that the new "worm stopper" in Norton Antivirus 2005 is causing this problem.
Did you install Norton Antivirus 2005?
