WIN98 SE won't load
Hi folks,
I am getting the "windows protection error, you must retart" etc.
Will start in safe mode. When I go to DOS only, it shows drive D as not valid drive. IE it can't find the cdrom drive which I'm guessing is hanging it up, but then who knows with windoz. I installed another cdrom drive from another working computer and no difference. It finds the cdrom drive when I install using win98 cd and with the floppy boot disk together, but then can't find it again after that. I also reinstalled win98 over the existing hoping it would reinstall any missing or damaged dlls or apps but no luck.
msn's hopless help site says maybe a virus, but it was working fine until now and I haven't used this computer on the internet for 6 mo or so. So I doubt its a virus.
Any help GREATLY apreciated,
thanks much

Boot into Safe Mode. When it gets to the desktop, right-click My Computer and select 'Properties'.
Click on the Device Manager tab and look under the video/display/graphics adaptors section. Is it listing more than one graphics card? Or any with an exclamation symbol next to them?
If so, delete each graphics card entry or any entries that are showing errors, click OK to each screen and then reboot.
You'll need to install any deleted drivers when it reboots but that might at least get you into Windows.
Let us know if that helps
