can anyone help me with my windows 98se
my computer had crashed ,,so I rebooted it ,,its a HP pavilion 6635 ,,with windows 98SE ,,I reinstalled windows 98SE ,,but had graphic problems ,,only 16 colors ,,a friend told me to go to intel ,to chipsets,,and to 810 family and get the graphics driver,,,worked great ,,but found out I have no sound ,,so I checked my compter ,,found out that I have no master volume controls,,with alot of wonderful help from people on this site ,,I found out that my computer has lots of problems ,,even regristry mehanic over a hundred problems and couldnt fix them all ,,so I think the best thing is to uninstall windows 98 and reinstall it ,,hoping that it will fix it self ,,,has anyone got any ideas before I do this ,,,

Whilst you've got an Internet connection, try and save a copy (off of the PC) of the drivers if you don't have the original HP driver CD. You'll need graphics (which you downloaded), sound (if you can work out what sound card you've got) and the modem drivers.
If you format your PC and re-install Windows 98 and then you need to get hold of the modem drivers off of the Internet, you'll be stuck as no modem means no Internet connection! Therefore, your modem driver is arguably the most important one to keep a safe copy of.
When you re-installed Windows 98 last time, did you lose all your data files, i.e. did you format the hard disk? Formatting the hard disk will make the re-install much more reliable ..... but at the cost of losing all of your data if you can't back it up onto floppy disk or CD.

The "PCI communications device" that it has found but has no driver for is your modem. If you've managed to get onto the Internet without that, I'm assuming that it has somehow found a second modem and installed that OK ..... or you've got broadband (ADSL) with an external modem.
The "unknown device" that it has found but has no drivers for is your sound card. Are you saying that the drivers that Anodyne gave you a link for haven't helped Windows to install your sound card properly? If that's the case, maybe you aren't using the standard sound card that HP said you should have inside your PC - let us know if that link didn't help and we can talk you through working out what sound card you've got if necessary
