Re: can anyone help me with my windows 98se
Hmmm, unfortunately that's not telling us anything on this occasion
For some things, the D-A-L.com Online Hardware Scan can interrogate the PC directly but, for others, it has to ask Windows. The 'Sound card' section of your log is empty so it looks like it can't find that out itself.
We'll have to go back to the old-fashioned method of opening up the PC and having a look. Please disconnect the mains power at the wall outlet and have a look for labels and markings on your sound card. We need to know the manufacturer (e.g. "Creative Labs" or "ESS") and the model number (e.g. "Sound Blaster AWE32" or "1869").
On the assumption that you don't have the standard HP sound card (otherwise the HP driver that Anodyne linked to should have worked), find out what sound card you've got and we'll get a link to a driver for you
I'm assuming that you don't have any system documentation that came with the PC that says what your sound card is? Or have we already covered that?

That is a reference to the on-board sound chip, i.e. the sound card that is built onto the motherboard. If this is what you use, you'll be plugging your speakers into a green round socket right next to the keyboard and mouse. If you've got a separate sound card, it will be on a separate back-plate towards the bottom of the PC (assuming it's a tower unit standing up, as opposed to a 'desktop' case that lays down under your monitor).
The thing is, if it is the on-board Intel sound chip that you're using, then the HP drivers that you were given a link to should have worked
....unless you've just got a broken sound chip and need a new motherboard .......
