Problem with hotfix KB891711

Re: Problem with hotfix KB891711
I only stopped KB891711 from launching at startup on my 98SE system, rather than de-install it. This has avoided my getting further "Critical Update Notification"s on this.
My system is running normal again. Some of my other performance issues were due to some unrelated camera software upgrades.

Thanks for all the great info, CAPTNHOOK, I'll be following this thread for any new info. Btw, I previously said I have two firewalls -- one is hardware and the other is software. There aren't any conflicts with other programs or drivers I'm using, so it seems from all the reports here that the hotfix KB891711 is unstable and according to MS tech at this point, best left uninstalled if it causes problems. ?? Exactly... I'll wait to hear what they advise, but in the meantime I believe I'm fairly well protected with AVG, ZoneAlarm, 2Wire's hardware firewall, and using Firefox.

Heres a thought.
What if MS says "It's by design" well then what would stop a hacker from making a program to "End Task" the KB891711.
Oh. well haven't tryed to call MS on this # yet.
from MS site......

ALSO: Will IE7.0 fix this, or will MS still not do it for 98,98se?

MS Updates of April 12 2005 include a re-written KB891711 patch
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/Sec.../ms05-002.mspx
Glad to report that so far it's shown no ill effects on my Box .. no problem running a proxie or different browsers.. or any conflicts with web filters.
It no longer runs a start-up as a running program (via ctrl-alt-del)
Will wait to comment further on if it slows the pc down any but so far so good!

I just installed the KB891711 hotfix using Windows Update and am not experiencing any problems after a restart. And yes, I created a restore point prior to installing it.
