    No, neither have I !

Could you create a HiJackThis log? You can download HiJackThis by going to this link:

    http://www.isecurity.org.uk/download...kthissetup.exe

Once installed, run it and click the button to create a log file. Open the log file that it creates, copy the contents and then paste them into a message here. This will tell us what is running on your PC and what it is trying to load when your PC starts up. This is likely to point us towards the cause of your initial problem and some of the problems detected by PC Doc

    kayjeray:

You can delete the files in your Internet Temp file. Then right click on your mouse and depress "Refresh." Then re-boot your computer holding down the F-8 key. This will bring your computer up in the "Safe Mode." Go to Start, Accessories, System Tools, and click on Defrag. That should work. It does for me. It is much faster.

    Good advice Nellie

Just to clarify a couple of things though: Firstly, the problem is being detected by Scandisk in the Temp folder (C:\Windows\Temp), not the Temporary Internet Files folder.

When you boot a Windows 98 PC and keep pressing F8 as it starts up, it will give you the Startup Menu. This has a number of options including one for starting in Safe Mode.

Can you let us know how you get on with that Kayjeray?
