hi...pretty new to computer thing and not sure if this is in right forum.right here goes,just bought a logitech quickcam messenger which i cant get installed.when i run the application disc it gets to a stage when it tells me to insert original windows 98 disc,it says it has data on it which i need..my prob is i have never had this disc and was wondering if any way to get my camera working without it???.....hope someone can help me...steve

Click the Start Menu, then Find, then Files Or Folders.

In the file name box, type *.CAB and, in the box underneath, get it to search for those files on your C: drive (hard disk).

Click 'Find Now'.

It will go off for a couple of minutes and search through your hard disk for any files with a name that ends in ".CAB" and, hopefully, some of those will be named Win98_1.cab, Win98_2.cab, Win98_3.cab, etc. These are the Windows 98 installation source files that the Logitech install wizard is looking for. Normally, they would be on your Windows 98 CDROM but, quite often, the PC manufacturer doesn't give you a CD and copies all of the files to the hard disk instead.

Normally the Windows 98 CAB files are found in C:\Windows\Options or C:\Windows\Options\Cabs.

Once you've determined which directory the CAB files are located in, run the installation routine for the Logitech webcam again. When it asks you to insert the CD, there should be an option to "browse" for the files in a different directory. Select the directory that the Find tool located those CAB files in. It should then complete successfully.

If the Find tool did not find any CAB files, you are stuck. This will normally only be the case if your PC was not built by a recognised manufacturer (more like a mate or some random guy down the pub) and you've been sold a PC with an illegal copy of Windows.
