I have 98os on this computer. When I try to run defrag it only goes to 1% then back to 0 then to 1% etc. I let it run over 3 hours and it's still doing the same. Can anyone help?

go to safe mode

Pause the Task Scheduler before running Scandisk or the
Defragmenter.

Run scandisk first to fix any folder, Fats and files. Then run defrag
next.
Do all these in safe mode. Defrag won't work properly if drives are bad.

Also delete all temp files & turn off screen saver.
