do you see any particular process listed in the task manager that is using the cpu?

what is the % for system idle? does the total for cpu plus system idle exceed 100%?

what about the cap lock on your keyboard?

I Would Like To Know If Getting Windows 2000 Would Eliminate This Problem. Pcpitstop And A Program Name Clearinfo Has Informed Me Of This.

I think an upgrade from ME to 2000 is a good choice. I would also suggest 2000 Pro.

& yes, it should eliminate all problems you are having if they are associated with ME.

To identify what process is running your CPU you can look in the Task Manager via Ctrl Alt Delete. Open the Process Tab. Do you see a process running 100%?

Do you mean that Pitstop & Clerinfo have advised of the CPU usage or the upgrade?

Turkey1111, could you please confirm that you are saying that your processor is being utilised 100% most of the time ...... or do you mean that your hard disk is 100% full up?

The reason that I ask is that I didn't know there was any way of seeing the CPU percentages in Windows ME so I'm thinking that maybe you're talking about something else.

    To all True Computer GEEKS

    CPU at 100%

I have this problem on Win98SE.

I have performed all of the testing I have seen advised on the web, but to no avail.

I tried Wintop and it shows "idle" at 99.2 percent but when I use one of the many "monitoring" programs, the cpu is still at 100%.

Has anybody actually solved this problem or are we still at the "guess" stage.

I have just updated my network drivers and didn't do a very good job. I think it was after this that I noticed the high CPU usage.

I have closed all of the programs that had normally started on "startup" except those which are absolutely required. Problem is still there.

    Thanks in advance
